Local Rules of Yangon Golf Club

1. Fairways

Fairways mean generally cut or mown area to delimit the fairway from rough and other territories. Boundaries of fairways are generally shown by green and white stakes. Unmown area at the edge of a bunker in the fairway is not the fairway.

2. Monsoon Rules

When monsoon rules is in force, a ball lying in a fairway may be lifted, cleaned and placed without penalty within one club-length of where it originally lay, but not nearer the hole.

3. Out of Bounds (OB)

The followings are the OBs generally shown by white stakes or posts: Left side of holes No.1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 13, 14 and 18, back of holes No. 4, 6, 12, 14 and 18.

4. Water Hazards

The followings are Water Hazards demarcated by yellow stakes: Creek crossing 6th hole fairway, Creek and pond in front of monsoon tee of 7th hole, Lake in front of 12th hole tee, Creek crossing 12th hole fairway, Pond between tee and green at 15th hole, Pond in front of 16th hole green.

5. Lateral Water Hazards

The followings are Lateral Water Hazards demarcated by red stakes: Creek and ponds at the left side of 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th holes. Two ponds beyond 2nd hole green, pond between 3rd and 5th hole, pond in front of 4th role, pond beyond 5th hole green, ponds at the left and right sides of 5th hole fairway, pond at right side of 6th green, ponds at the left and right sides of 6th fairway, ponds between 7th and 12th holes, left and right side ponds at the 8th hole, ponds at the right side of 11th hole, ponds between 12th and 13th holes, creek between 13th and 16th holes, ponds beyond 13th hole green, lake between 14th and 15th holes, creek at the right side of 15th hole green, ponds around 16th hole green, left and right side ponds of the 17th hole fairway.

6. Tractor Marks

If a ball lies in a wheel mark of a tractor or mowing machine, it may be lifted, cleaned and dropped without penalty, within one club-length of the wheel mark, not nearer the hole. This relief cannot apply against a stance falling on the wheel mark.

7. Sprinkler Heads of Through-the-green

All sprinkler heads situated through-the-green are immovable obstructions.

8. Fixed Sprinkler Heads

If a sprinkler head within two club-lengths of the putting green of the hole being played, intervenes on the line of play between the ball ad the hole, the player may obtain relief, without penalty as follows: (a) if the ball lies off the putting green but not in a hazard and is within two club-lengths of the sprinkler head, it may be lifted, cleaned and dropped at the nearest point to where the ball lay which (1) is not nearer the hole, (2) avoids such intervention and (3) is not in a hazard or on a putting green; (b) if the ball lies on the putting green, and is within two club-lengths of the sprinkler head, it may be lifted, cleaned and placed at the nearest point to where the ball lay which (1) is not nearer the hole, (2) avoids such intervention and (3) on the putting green.

9. Drains and Filled-in Mounds

Drains and filled-in mounds through-the-green are immovable obstructions.

10. Protection Of Young Tees and Yardage Marker Trees

Through the green, if a young tree or yardage marker tree intentionally planted interferes with a player's stance or the area of his intended swing, the ball must be lifted and dropped without penalty within one club-length of the tree or of the watering circle or fence around the tree. The ball may be cleaned when so lifted.

11. Other Immovable Obstructions

All roads and paths, half-way house and other rest sheds on the course, benches, lamp posts, switch boxes, electric cables, water pipes, temporary piles and heaps of loose soil, sand, cut limbs, leaves and rubbish, man-made holes and ditches are immovable obstructions.

12. Ground Under Repair From Where Play Is Prohibited

(a) All areas demarcated by the committee by showing GUR sign boards are ground under repair from where relief is granted. (b) Nursery at the left side of 17th fairway is ground under repair from where play is prohibited.

13. Embedded Ball; Rule 25-2

Through the green, a ball embedded in its own pitch-mark in the ground, other than sand, may be lifted, cleaned and dropped without penalty, as near as possible to the spot where it lay but not nearer the hole.

14. Ball Lost in the Fairway

If there is reasonable evidence that the ball is lost in a fairway, a ball may be dropped without penalty as near as possible to the spot where the original ball last struck the fairway.

15. Brick Boundary Wall of Hazards

As brick or concrete boundary wall of water hazards and lateral water hazards are declared as integral part of the course, no relief is permitted against it.

16. Stones in Bunkers

Stones in Bunkers are movable obstructions (Rule 24-1 applies) as they may represent danger to players and interface with proper playing of the game.
